WhatsApp Now Supports Search by Date Feature for Messages

  • Meta is rolling out a search-by-date feature to WhatsApp users around the globe.
  • The process of searching for messages has been enhanced with this option

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has introduced a new feature in WhatsApp whereby users can search the chats with the date function. Introducing the ‘search by date’ feature will make it easier for users to search for specific messages in their WhatsApp chats.

Zuckerberg also shared a video depicting the feature in his WhatsApp channel.

WhatsApp Chat Search by Date Feature

The feature will allow users to choose a date and skip to all messages sent from that date onwards. Earlier, users were allowed to search the chats only with text, which was inconvenient for many users.

The new feature introduced by Meta is live for all WhatsApp users around the globe, be it on Android or iOS.

The feature is also available for Mac desktop and WhatsApp Web users. The new functionality can be accessed by tapping the search button and choosing the preferred date. Here are the steps to access the same on Android and iPhones.

How to use ‘Search by Date’ on WhatsApp Messages

  • Open any personal or group chat and click on the three dots to access the search feature on your Android phone.
  • The search functionality can be accessed on iPhones by tapping the contact or group name.
  • Make sure your iOS or Android version of WhatsApp is updated.
  • When you open the Search Option, you will see a little calendar with a search symbol at the bottom right on iOS.
  • Tap on this and you will see an option for dates appear. You can now put the preferred date, month and year, and search accordingly.

Mark adds that the new feature will coexist alongside the existing one that segregates media, links, and docs by month. To recall, the feature was spotted in the WhatsApp Web beta update in November 2023 with version 2.2348.50 and was limited to a certain number of beta testers.
