Xiaomi Mi TV 4A Models Receiving Android TV 9.0 Update; Brings Chromecast Built-in, YouTube, More

Xiaomi has announced it on Twitter that the brand is rolling out OTA firmware update to the Mi TV 4A 32-inch and the Mi TV 4A 43-inch in India. The OTA software update upgrades the OS version of these TVs to Android TV 9.0.

According to the brand, the software update is being rolled out in batches. Therefore, not everyone will get the OTA update at the same time. You can expect the update to roll out entirely within the next few days. Since people were complaining to the brand on Twitter that the update is taking too long to roll out, Xiaomi created a Google Form for the update, where, you have to fill details of your TV such as its serial number and ethernet MAC address, so that Xiaomi can push the update to your TV manually. Opting for this route will get you the update faster.

Along with the Android 9 Pie OS, the firmware update brings built-in Chromecast, Play Store, YouTube, Play Movies, Data Saver, and many other features. Unfortunately, Xiaomi hasn’t detailed the full changelog of the software update for these TVs. That being said, users on Twitter have posted pictures of the update prompt, which reveals that the update also brings Amazon Prime Video and Netflix support to these TVs. However, I can’t confirm at the moment if both TVs are getting the support for Netflix and Prime Video.

It is worth noting that the Mi TV 4A 32-inch and the Mi TV 4A 43-inch have been discontinued in the Indian market. Those TVs are replaced by the Mi TV 4A Pro 32-inch and the Mi TV 4A Pro 43-inch. Usually, TV manufacturers don’t offer major software updates to their discontinued televisions. Xiaomi, however, seems to care about its customers more than other brands do. Hopefully, the brand will continue to do so. Anyway, have you received the Android TV 9.0 update on your Mi TV 4A? Do let us know in the comments below.
