Samsung Previews New Conversational Bixby Ahead of Galaxy S26 Launch

Samsung has announced a major upgrade to Bixby, positioning it as a more conversational, AI-powered device agent ahead of the upcoming Galaxy S26 series launch. The update, rolling out as part of One UI 8.5, signals Samsung’s broader push to make Galaxy AI more deeply embedded into everyday phone interactions rather than limited to isolated features.

The announcement comes just days before Samsung’s February 25 Galaxy Unpacked event, where the Galaxy S26 lineup is expected to be unveiled. While Samsung has not explicitly linked the update to the new flagship phones, the timing and platform integration strongly suggest that the redesigned Bixby will be a core part of the Galaxy S26 experience.

With the update, Bixby moves beyond voice commands and scripted responses to operate as a contextual device agent. Users can now control settings and troubleshoot issues using natural language, without needing to know exact feature names or menu paths. For example, instead of navigating multiple settings screens, users can simply explain what they want to change or ask why something is happening on their device, and Bixby will take the appropriate action.

This aligns with Samsung’s recent positioning of Galaxy AI as a layer that simplifies everyday interactions. In earlier previews around the Galaxy S26 launch, Samsung has emphasised AI-driven experiences across camera workflows, content creation, and on-device intelligence. The new Bixby appears to extend that philosophy into core device control, reducing friction in routine tasks such as display behaviour, accidental touches, or power management.

Another key addition is real-time web search integration within Bixby’s interface. Users can now ask broader questions, such as travel planning or local recommendations, and receive live web results without being redirected to a browser. This reflects Samsung’s attempt to keep AI interactions contained within the Galaxy ecosystem, rather than pushing users across multiple apps.

From a platform perspective, this update reinforces the role of One UI 8.5 as more than a visual refresh. With conversational AI, contextual understanding, and live information access built into the system layer, Samsung appears to be using the software to differentiate its flagship experience as much as the hardware itself.

The updated Bixby is currently available as part of a beta rollout in select markets, including India. Wider availability and deeper integration details are expected to become clearer once Samsung officially unveils the Galaxy S26 series at Galaxy Unpacked.
