OnePlus recently announced a deeper integration with Oppo in order to streamline operations and capitalize on shared resources. OnePlus said that the integration will allow the company to bring faster and more stable software updates for users. Today, OnePlus in a community post, said that in order to improve efficiency and standardize the software experience, the company is now working on integrating the codebase of OxygenOS and ColorOS. The company also revealed a new update policy for its range of smartphones including the recently launched OnePlus Nord CE 5G. In the post, OnePlus said,
This is a change that you will likely not even notice since it’s happening behind the scenes. We now have a larger and even more capable team of developers, more advanced R&D resources, and a more streamlined development process all coming together to improve the OxygenOS experience.
As per the announcement, mid-range devices such as OnePlus Nord, and the Nord CE 5G will be eligible to receive two Android updates, and 3 years of security updates. This means that the OnePlus Nord Core Edition will receive Android 12, and Android 13 updates in the future, while it will keep receiving Android security patch updates till H1, 2024. However, Android 12 will be the last Android update for the OG OnePlus Nord, but it will receive Android security patches till H1, 2023. Also, OnePlus flagships (including R, and T variants) will receive 3 Android updates, and 4 years of security updates.
