It has been quite a while since we have seen Apple updating its high-end (and first-ever) headphone, Apple AirPods Max, with new features or looks. The audio product that came out in the year 2020, stays the same until now. However, this year might be the one when the iPhone-maker finally makes a few additions to the headphone lineup. While we are already hearing rumours about AirPods Pro 2, the AirPods Max is expected to come in some new colours. The arrival could be later this year as a mid-cycle refresh. For now, the premium over-the-ear headphones are available in five colours – Space Grey, Silver, Pink, Green and Sky Blue. It costs Rs 66,100 in India.
The report about new colours for AirPods Max comes from Mark Gurman as a part of the latest edition of Power On newsletter (via 9to5Mac). Although he did not reveal what these new colours will be, he does predict that Apple may also drop the price of the headphones this time. That’s because the headphones lack the support for ‘Lossless’ audio. The price relevance will be even less when the AirPods 2 will come with support for the particular feature.
May Launch Alongside AirPods Pro 2
The new colours for AirPods Max are expected to arrive alongside the AirPods Pro 2 earbuds later this year. It is not for sure if these will arrive alongside the iPhone 14 lineup or at a different date altogether.
AirPods Pro 2 has been in rumours since the past few months. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new premium AirPods will get a significantly upgraded wireless chip compared to the H1 chip on the original AirPods Pro. One can expect improvements in active noise cancellation, better battery life and some new audio-related functions.
We are expecting the new device to feature the same design with a stem like the original model. However, this contradicts Gurman’s previous claims of Apple removing the stem in this version of the hardware. Also, rumoured is a slightly different charging case and may have speaker holes on either side of the lightning port.
