Apple revealed its Vision Pro headset at WWDC 2023, which is now set to hit the store shelves starting February 2, with pre-orders beginning on January 19. However, a notable change has been spotted in the latest iOS 17 beta, suggesting a tweak in Apple’s strategy. In the iOS 17.3 beta 2 codes, observers at 9to5Mac noticed the removal of the “Pro” label from various mentions of the Apple Vision.

Strings that used to mention “Apple Vision Pro” have been updated to “Apple Vision.” For example, the App Store description previously included “Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro Apps,” but it now reads “Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision Apps.”

Even Apple’s website now refers to the product as “Vision” in the navigation tab, dropping the “Pro” label. While this change doesn’t reveal much, it hints at Apple’s readiness for a potential non-Pro version of its forthcoming VR headset.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that Apple is eyeing a price point between $1,500 (roughly Rs 1,25,000) to $2,500 (roughly Rs 2,00,000) for the less expensive model. Despite the Pro version launching soon, Indians will have to wait a little longer. As it will first arrive in the US, and Apple has yet to announce retail availability for the headset in other parts of the world, including India.

Interestingly, a few months ago, a report from DigiTimes indicated that Apple is developing four versions of the second-generation Apple Vision Pro. Another report proposed that two of these models will be released, each targeting distinct consumer segments. The initial model, reminiscent of the Apple Vision Pro, will get high specifications and carry a premium price tag. The second, positioned as the mass-market edition, is purported to prioritize functionality and affordability.

As Apple enthusiasts await the Apple Vision Pro’s release, these subtle changes in naming spark curiosity about Apple’s future product lineup strategy. How these adjustments will impact Apple’s market presence remains to be seen.
