Even a few years back air purifiers were not really devices that people would have bet on to become necessary for living in metros like Delhi. But the sheer amount of air pollution that is caused by multiple factors has turned the air quality in metros to ‘hazardous’.
And air purifiers like the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde is the answer to tackling the situation. Dyson is among multiple companies manufacturing air purifiers and the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde (TP-09) is one of the best and newest devices from the company. The company sent us over the device for a review and we have used it extensively before this review.
Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde: Design and Look
The Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde retains the classic air purifier look from the range of Dyson air purifiers which includes a bladeless fan ring that blows out the cool air and the bottom filter half that pulls in the air from the surrounding environment.
The Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde’s bladeless fan has a rhomboid oval shape that along with the golden air intake bottom has a long form factor. The purifier stands at just over 1 meters, making it a tall device.
At a glance it is not possible to tell where the air is coming from on the device, which is what makes the device stand apart from the rest. There is a power button on the base of the ring and top of the body of the filter unit. Besides this there are no other physical buttons on the device itself. All the other controls of the device can be accessed using the remote provided. There is a round display on the body of the filter unit that displays different information including the air quality, mode as well as the speed of the fan.
The remote control has a small footprint with a golden matte plastic body that includes buttons for controlling the power, changing the information visible on the display, auto and night modes, fan speed up and down, fan direction as well as rotation.
The filter base and the top fan rotates up to 350 degrees on the stand which will cover for almost all corners of the room. And in the corner or a room this device would look like a classy addition and would go well with most decor.
The Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde has been touted to do a lot of things by the company, most prominent of which include continuously removing formaldehyde from the air, capturing dust, allergens and viruses and removing 99.95% of pollutants as small as 0.1 microns with the EPA H13 filter. While it is not realistically possible for us to test these abilities of the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde for the review, there are a few practical ways to tell if the device worked efficiently.
My wife is allergic to dust and we happen to reside in a house that is right next to an open field as well as a busy road, hence dust is an inevitable part of our lives. She keeps sneezing intermittently from the dust but the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde seemed to take care of the issue quite well. Within minutes of turning on the device, the apparent quantity of floating dust in the room seems to dissipate, alleviating my wife’s condition.
My living room and the kitchen have a passage in between and yet whenever I am cooking something or frying something, the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde in its Auto mode will pick up speed in order to counteract whatever little smoke has entered the room. This happened when we lit candles in the room for a birthday cake as well.
The sensors on the device are quite sharp and happens to pick up even the slightest changes in the air composition of the room. The device display shows different information which includes the PM 2.5, PM 10, VOCs, NO2, as well as the temperature and humidity in the room.
I was testing the device during peak summers in Kolkata, which tends to get quite hot, and the ‘Cool’ function of the device really does make a difference and it does blow cooler air than there is in the room.
The filter compartment opens rather easily and the filter slides out for a hassle-free replacement. The filter life and replacement status is also notified to the user on the display. The Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde has fan speeds that range from 1 to 10. While 1-5 speeds are quite silent, 6-10 get more and more audible. The fan is quite powerful and provides a strong breeze at higher speeds. The Night Mode keeps things nice and quiet which do not disturb sleep at all.
The Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde comes with a mobile app which displays all the relevant information and even helps control the rotation of the device. The app itself works as a more powerful remote control if the device is connected to a WiFi connection. The rotation of the device and angle can also be adjusted from the app, making it quite convenient. The device can also be controlled using voice commands using Google Assistant.
Should You Buy the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde?
In all honesty, there are only positives to speak about the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde. Be that the sleek and elegant design that will fit into even the classiest homes. It performs exceptionally well and is sufficiently sensitive to keep a tab on even the slightest changes in the room air composition. It has a powerful fan that can direct cool air efficiently in any direction that has been specified by the app. Top these up with the plethora of information that is provided by the device to the user either on the display or on their apps.
But the only possible point of contention is that the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde has been priced at Rs 52,900, which makes is one of the most premium or the most premiumly priced personal air purifier in the market. While the price is much higher than most of the competition, the quantitative value seems hard to decide. To those that can afford to shell out this sum for an air purifier this really is the best device to go for, but there are others on the market that do the job just as efficiently.
