Google has expanded the Gemini AI model’s capabilities and has announced the ability to chat with Gemini in Messages at the MWC 2024 event. Alongside, the search giant has introduced new Android features. Check out the details.

Gemini Comes to Google Messages

The integration of Gemini on Google Messages will assist users in drafting messages, brainstorming ideas, planning events, or having a regular conversation without exiting the app. The feature can also be used to attend scheduled meetings, which are synced with Gmail. Gemini on Google Messages will be available to beta users as of now.

To recall, the Gemini AI model was introduced as the largest AI model to rival OpenAI’s GPT-4 in December 2023. The search engine giant later renamed its chatbot from Bard to Gemini in the first week of February 2024.

Let us quickly take a look at the eligibility to use Gemini in Google Messages before heading to the steps to start using Gemini in Google.

  • The Pixel 6 or later, Pixel Fold, Samsung Galaxy S22 or later, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, or Galaxy Z Flip.
  • Supported Languages: English in all countries with Gemini in Messages, French in Canada.
  • The latest version of Google Messages from the Google Play Store.
  • A personal Google account that is not managed by Family Link or with a Google Workspace account.
  • 18 years of age or older, and RCS chats turned on.

How to Get Started

Once you comply with the eligibility criteria, here’s what needs to be done.

  1. Open Google Messages and choose the Chat with Gemini option, or tap on Start Chat and choose Gemini.
  2. Follow any on-screen prompts that may appear for first-time users.
  3. Enter your query to explore different conversations, and tap a suggestion above the message field.
  4. Select the attach media screen button to add a photo to your prompt, and tap Send Message.

The public availability of the functionality is expected to commence soon in the upcoming months.
