Google has announced that its suite of AI-based photo editing tools will become free for Google Photos users. This will include features like Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, and more. Notably, these features were limited to Pixel and Google One users until now.
Google Photo Users Will Get AI Editing Features for Free
The company has announced that Google Photos users will be able to benefit from the AI photo editing features starting May 15. The list includes Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light, which allow users to remove unwanted objects, reduce blurriness, and add a bokeh effect.

Google is also making the much-talked-about Magic Editor (exclusive to the Pixel 8 series) free for all but there’s a catch. Google Photos users can save 10 images using Magic Editor every month. To remove the 10-image limitation, a Google One subscription is needed. Features like Audio Eraser, Best Take, Super Res Zoom, and Video Boost will continue to be Pixel 8 series-exclusive.
These editing features have been key selling points of the latest and higher-end Pixel devices along with Google One. However, the decision to make them free for all could be accredited to Google’s vision of innovation and inclusivity within its ecosystem. It could also be because of the introduction of the OnePlus and OPPO AI Eraser, Samsung’s Object Remover, etc., which are already free for all.
Google AI Editing Features Minimum Requirements
Google has posted a list of minimum requirements for Android and iOS devices for these features to work. Let’s take a look.

Google will also roll out these features to the Pixel Tablet, Chromebooks, and iPads. Expect these features to roll out in a phased manner, starting May 15.
