  • The feature was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android updates.

WhatsApp profile pictures will soon get a major upgrade in the form of AI-generated images. According to the popular WhatsApp tracking website, WABetaInfo, users will soon be able to set AI-generated profile pictures using a prompt within the app itself.

This feature utilises the integrated Meta AI Chatbot, which was recently added to the instant messaging platform. WhatsApp seems to be working on introducing more AI-powered features to improve user interaction and offer a more personalised experience.

WhatsApp Profile Picture Will Soon Get AI Treatment

According to WABetaInfo, the AI-generated profile pictures feature is available in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.11.17 update. Those interested in trying out the feature need to sign up for the beta program and download the latest version from the Play Store.

It’s not known how the feature will work, but based on the screenshot shared by the source, there will be a dedicated section for AI Profile Picture. It is safe to assume that the option will be available within the edit icon for the profile picture.

Once the user opens the section, they must give a prompt to generate the desired profile picture. This is similar to AI stickers on WhatsApp, which also require users to describe desired stickers to generate them.

Notably, WhatsApp users can currently use the Meta AI search bar to generate a desired image, but they need to do so within the Meta AI chat, save it, and then set it as a profile picture. The new AI-generated profile pictures will streamline this process and let users set profile pictures directly.

The AI-powered profile picture is expected to arrive in a future platform update. It will benefit users who want a personalised display picture to reflect their mood but don’t want to share real pictures.
