September-October is the month of the year when the big three of the tech world usually hold their events to release new hardware products and make new announcements. While we are yet to hear an official announcement from Apple and Google about their plans, it is Microsoft that has shared details about its event.

As reported by various Western media outlets, Microsoft has started sending out media invites for a “special event” on September 21. This event will take place in New York City but no other details have been shared. The invite says, “Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 21, 2023, for a special Microsoft event.”

It is not hard to guess Microsoft wants to keep things under wraps and is hoping to surprise attendees and fans with the announcements. However, it is safe to assume the event will largely focus on the new Surface devices. It may also go on to talk about new AI-enabled features for Windows. Additionally, it could touch upon the changes coming to Windows 11 as an operating system.

There have been speculations Microsoft will debut the new Surface Laptop Studio 2, Surface Laptop Go 3, and Surface Go 4. Some rumours suggest Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 could also make an appearance at the event.

The Surface Laptop Studio 2 is expected to arrive with 13th Gen Intel Core CPUs, up to 64GB of RAM, up to NVIDIA RTX 6040 GPU, and an upgraded haptic touchpad. This would undoubtedly be a huge upgrade over the current-gen model powered by 11th Gen Intel CPUs and RTX 3060 GPU. It is said Microsoft has no plans to introduce AMD variants this time around.

It is unknown how many of these new Surface devices will launch for Indian users. Microsoft does list the Surface Pro 9, Surface Go 3, Surface Laptop 5, Surface Laptop Studio, and Surface Laptop Go 2 on its official Indian website. This suggests we should receive all the successor models too, unless there is a change of plan.

As said in the beginning, Microsoft will likely make AI-related announcements as well at the event. It is because the company has been focused on advanced and generative AI for quite some time. It introduced AI-powered Bing search and Edge browser earlier this year. Microsoft is also one of the major investors in OpenAI, the company behind the popular ChatGPT. This is the reason it has even started working on killing Cortana as a stand-alone app for Windows.

This is pretty much what we know about Microsoft’s plans for the September 2023 event. We will keep you posted as more details will emerge, either officially or through other means.
