A few weeks ago, Carl Pei shared that Nothing is working on a new Quick Settings panel and asked users what they like and dislike about the NothingOS 2.5 Quick Settings and Notification panel.

The company seems to have worked on this panel based on user feedback. As a result, Carl has shared the redesigned Quick Settings and Notification panel on X. Take a look at the details.

NothingOS 3.0 Quick Settings Panel: What’s New?

This new Quick Settings and Notification panel is expected to be included with NothingOS 3.0 and set to bring major changes.

  • The Quick Setting tiles and background colour will match the system theme. Currently, the Quick Setting tiles remain grey, and the background around the tiles remains black, regardless of the system theme chosen by the user.
  • Nothing has also redesigned the brightness level slider, and as a result, it is now thicker. Its position has also changed and resides below the quick settings tiles.
  • The brand is opting for a mix of circular and pill-shaped tiles instead of pill-shaped tiles. This would allow users to utilise the space efficiently as they can now access more shortcut tiles.
  • The huge square connectivity tile appears discarded. Intead, there will be separate circular tiles for Mobile Data and WiFi.
  • The Mute/Ring/Viberate quick settings tile has been redesigned. As a result, the pill-shaped tile now has three stages: Ring, Viberate, and Mute. This will allow users to switch to Mute mode from Ring mode with just one tap. As of now, it requires two taps: one to switch from Ring mode to Viberate and the second to switch from Viberate mode to Mute.

However, users on Twitter pointed out some inconsistencies. Most of the tiles in the switched-on state are highlighted by a brighter shade of white. The flashlight tile in the switched-on state is represented using a red accent colour. We hope Nothing makes it uniform before shipping it with an upcoming update.

Nothing Phone (3) Might Feature an Alert Slider?

The device mockup, used by Carl in the social media post, showcases a phone with a flat edge design and a centred punch hole notch. This could be the Nothing Phone (3), and the company might have intentionally included it as a mockup to start chatter about the Nothing Phone (3).

In a typical Nothing fashion, this mockup phone has volume rockers along the left edge and a power button along the right edge. The volume rockers and power buttons in the device used in mockups are placed higher than in the Nothing Phone (2).

Also, another button can be seen on the right edge alongside the power button. Netizens on X have speculated that this could be a camera shutter button, an alert slider, or an action button. However, an ex-employee – Bruno Viegas, hints that it could be the vibration slider.

The alert slider has been one of the most requested features on a Nothing device, and it appears that the brand might finally buy it with the upcoming Phone (3).

OnePlus is the only Android manufacturer that has used the alert slider on all its devices (except budget Nord series devices). Apart from OnePlus, OPPO has also used a similar implementation on some of their high-end devices.
