OPPO Could Introduce its 10x Hybrid Optical Zoom Camera Technology in China on January 16

The 10x hybrid optical zoom technology is expected to be integrated into the upcoming F series smartphones from OPPO.

Chinese leakster Ice Universe recently claimed OPPO could soon introduce a 10x hybrid optical zoom technology for smartphones. While it was previously speculated that the technology could be showcased at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona next month, a leaked invite suggests OPPO may debut the tech at a separate event in China on January 16.

OPPO 10X Hybrid Optical Zoom Technology to be Unveiled in China This Week?

As you can see in the leaked invite, the light in the doorway shows the number 10. This clearly suggests OPPO may be planning to introduce the 10x hybrid optical zoom technology at the event in China. At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in 2017, OPPO had showcased its 5x lossless zoom technology. However, the technology is yet to be commercialized. If the latest rumors are to be believed, OPPO’s new 10x hybrid optical zoom technology will be commercialized very soon. The first smartphones to feature the technology could be the OPPO F19 and F19 Pro. Apart from featuring the 10x zoom camera technology, the F19 duo is expected to sport a punch-hole display and could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 675 processor under the hood. We can expect the technology to be used in the OPPO R17 successor as well, which is expected to be marketed as R19. The R17, which was announced in China in August last year, went on sale in India recently. OPPO R17 is available in India via Amazon.in for INR 34,990. The OPPO R17 Pro, on the other hand, is available for INR 45,990 in the country.

OPPO 10x Hybrid Optical Zoom Technology Invite

While no specifics regarding the new zoom technology has been revealed yet, the basic setup is expected to be similar to the 5x lossless zoom technology demonstrated by the company at MWC 2017. The 5x lossless zoom technology utilizes dual cameras with wide-angle and telephoto lenses. The telephoto lens is housed using a periscope-style structure, which helps achieve a high zoom by shifting the angle of the lens by 90 degrees. To find out more about the technology, all we can do is wait until the event in China on Wednesday.
