Update (07/05/2020): OnePlus’ official statement

OnePlus has released an official statement regarding the display issue of the OnePlus 8 Pro. According to the brand, the display problem is a software issue and not a hardware-level flaw. Therefore, it does not require replacing any of the components of the device. OnePlus says that the problem can be solved with a software update and the upcoming OxygenOS update will fix the issue.

The brand has not mentioned anything regarding the refund or the replacement of the smartphone or accepting returns of the device for the display flaw, in the email that they have sent to us. Below is the company’s official statement for reference.

‘We are looking into the ‘black crush’ issue which we aim to address in the upcoming OxygenOS update. Please stay tuned for more information.’

The original story follows…

OnePlus recently launched its latest flagship OnePlus 8 series of smartphones. The OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro smartphones have been launched in almost all parts of the world, including India. There is no denying the fact that the OnePlus 8 lineup of smartphones has been making the rounds on the internet for quite a while now. The talks surrounding the lineup started way ahead of the official launch in terms of leaks and rumours.

Post-launch, the pro variant is once again creating headlines, but not for a good reason this time around. A little while ago, reports surrounding a potential black crush and green screen problem on the OnePlus 8 Pro units surfaced on the internet, which the company has finally addressed now. As it turns out, OnePlus is offering a refund, replacement, or a return of OnePlus 8 Pro devices, which are facing the aforementioned issue.

OnePlus 8 Pro Screen Issue Addressed by the Company, and This Time it’s Not an OTA Update

The display black crush and green screen problem is not something that has popped up only recently. The talks about it have been going on for quite a while now and OnePlus even tried to fix the same with an OTA update. That, however, did not apparently provide for the fix that was required. To make things even worse, OnePlus responded to a Reddit user’s query suggesting that the problem was a hardware-based issue.

After that, the company has released an official statement, which suggests that the OEM will provide for solutions like a refund, a return, or a replacement of the OnePlus 8 Pro devices. As of now, the company has started doing the same in the European region and we can expect the same to happen in other parts of the globe in the coming days. Below is the company’s official statement for your reference:

Since this is hardware issue you have 3 options to get this fixed for your:
1. Sending the device for repair to the service center.
2. Return the device and get the refund for the purchase.
3. Submit a replacement request on the website and get a new one device.

Because the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro devices are yet to go on their first sale in India, we cannot really say for sure as to whether or not the Indian units of the OnePlus 8 Pro will suffer from this issue. While there’s still a considerable amount of time left for the OnePlus 8 series to reach potential customers in India, we can expect that the company thinks of fixing the devices pre-hand rather than asking the customers to return them later on. Once again, this is pretty much an expectation and nothing can be said for sure as of now.
