POCO launched the POCO M3 in global markets towards the end of 2020. The POCO M3 lineup is all set to get a new Pro variant – POCO M3 Pro 5G. As the name suggests, the POCO M3 Pro 5G will be the first budget 5G device from the brand. POCO Global executive Kevin Xiaobo Qiu, and Angus Ng, in an exclusive interview with Android Central, revealed that the POCO M3 Pro will also be offered in Iconic POCO Yellow color, which we saw with the POCO M3 for the first time. Kevin also confirmed that the POCO M3 Pro 5G will be the first POCO M-series device to feature a higher refresh rate display.

We want to give people an easier way to switch to 5G. By giving them an option at a lower price point, they can experience 5G when they want to. We wanted to make it more accessible for our fans to connect to 5G.

POCO X3 NFC to be discontinued!

POCO executives revealed that following the POCO M3 Pro 5G release, the POCO X3 NFC will be discontinued since both will fall in the same price bracket. For the performance-hungry users, there is POCO X3 Pro, which launched recently at an attractive price.

POCO M3 Pro 5G will feature a High Refresh Rate display!

The POCO M3 Pro 5G was spotted on IMEI database a while back revealing that it is a rebadged Redmi Note 10 5G. We can expect the POCO M3 Pro to feature a 6.5-inch FHD+ LCD display with 1080×2400 pixel resolution. The smartphone will offer a high refresh rate display, as confirmed by Kevin. It should be a 90Hz refresh rate display with 500 nits peak brightness, similar to the Redmi Note 10 5G.

The upcoming POCO M3 Pro 5G will sport a MediaTek Dimendity 5G-enabled processor under the hood. Qiu says that the POCO M3 Pro will offer up to 60% better performance compared to the Snapdragon 662 on the regular POCO M3.

Based on our performance evaluation and the price where this device will be positioned, we felt that this hit the spot, We believe that this chipset can live up to our fans’ expectations.

Though, the POCO executives didn’t specifically mention which Dimensity processor will power POCO M3 Pro, we know that it will be the Dimensity 700 processor, as it powers Redmi Note 10 5G. The MediaTek Dimensity 700 is built on a 7nm fabrication process. POCO M3 Pro is also confirmed to feature more RAM, and faster storage compared to the regular POCO M3, so we can expect POCO M3 Pro to feature UFS 2.2 storage, and retail only in 6GB RAM.

The POCO M3 Pro 5G might offer a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor. While, the other two sensors could be 2MP depth, and macro sensors. It might be equipped with an 8MP front shooter. The smartphone will boot Android 11 based MIUI 12.5. The POCO M3 Pro could feature a 5000mAh battery with 22.5W fast-charging support over a Type-C port.

While, the POCO executives didn’t reveal the launch timeline for the upcoming POCO M3 Pro 5G, we can expect it to hit the market this quarter itself. The smartphone should also launch in the Indian market, as its predecessor – POCO M2 Pro launched in India almost a year ago.

POCO UI coming soon?

POCO uses MIUI based – MIUI for POCO software skin for all its smartphones. In addition to regular MIUI features, POCO has baked in some useful nifty features based on user feedback. The company says that it will keep adding more exclusive features to the software, but the OS will be based on MIUI. Though, the company might rename the software skin to POCO UI to differentiate it from MIUI.

We are going to add some special features to make MIUI for POCO into a more exclusive look for our customers. It will still be based on MIUI’s codebase, but we’re looking at exclusive features for the upgraded interface.

Angus Ng, also talked about the possibility of creating a unique interface from scratch, but he says it’s not feasible at the moment. But, if the company gains significant market share globally, it could definitely look into the possibility.

No plans to launch a ‘Super Flagship’ at the moment!

POCO recently launched its 2021 flagship – POCO F3 in global markets. The executives say that there are no plans to launch a Super Flagship, similar to the POCO F2 Pro, at the moment. This means that there might not be a Pro variant this time around in the POCO F3 lineup. This is due to the fact that the prices will go up if the company tries to release a product that could compete with the likes of Mi 11, Samsung Galaxy S21, and iPhone 12.

We’ve definitely discussed launching a super flagship. The F3 features a Snapdragon 870, and it is better than last year’s Snapdragon 865. One of the major issues we’ve noticed when we try to go up against phones like the Xiaomi Mi 11, Galaxy S21, and iPhone 12 is that it’s difficult to get the price down.

POCO is also expected to launch POCO F3 GT, rebadged Redmi K40 Game Edition fro the Indian market. Though, the company has put its launch on hold, which was supposed to happen this month, as the country is struggling with the second wave of Covid-19. What do you think about the POCO M3 Pro 5G?
