  • Sony will release a PlayStation App update with Share Screen interactions later this month.

Sony has begun rolling out a new PS5 system update for all PlayStation 5 users worldwide. It is available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, and PlayStation 5 slim version. This update was first released for beta testers in select countries last month but is now available for everyone globally. It brings noteworthy changes related to DualSense audio and Share Screen functionalities.

PS5 System Update: What’s New?

DualSense Controller Enhancements

The first major change in the latest PS5 system update is related to DualSense and DualSense Edge wireless controllers. Speakers on these controllers are now capable of producing higher-volume sounds. This is said to be helpful in a clearer hearing of in-game sounds and voice chat audio.

The team has further improved the noise-cancellation capabilities of DualSense. It has utilized an AI machine learning model to improve the mic input quality. This also reduces the background noise produced through button presses and game audio. Sony says users may feel the audio coming out from the controller is louder but it can be adjusted from the control center if needed.

Share Screen Interactions

Sony has introduced new ways of interacting with the gameplay of their friends when using the Share Screen mode. Users can now use pointers and emojis for interactions. Plus, users can send a ping or draw a line on the shared screen to highlight objects and guide the host more accurately.

These new Share Screen Interactions are enabled by default. However, the host can choose to disable them from Share Screen settings if they want to. These will be released via a PlayStation app update later this month.

PS5 Power Indicator Brightness Adjustment

The last major change in the PS5 system update is the ability to adjust the PS5 power indicator brightness. A user can visit Settings -> System -> Beep and Light -> Brightness to choose their preferred option. There will be Dim, Medium, and Bright (standard) options to choose from.
