Qualcomm recently refreshed its flagship mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC with the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC. The new Qualcomm chipset for flagship Android smartphones comes with up to 10 per cent CPU and GPU improvements and up to 30 per cent better efficiency. Like its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC is also based on a 4nm process. Smartphones with the new flagship chipset will launch in the coming days.

A new report now claims that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is already in the works. It is slated to launch at the end of this year. Some key features of the upcoming Snapdragon flagship SoC have leaked online as well. Let’s take a look at the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC specs, features and other details known so far.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC Features Leaked

Qualcomm is expected to announce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC in December. Ahead of its official launch, some details have leaked. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon’s Gen 2 flagship SoC will have a unique cluster setup. The SoC has the model number SM8550.

Digital Chat Station claims that the Gen 2 variant will be manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and will continue to be based on a 4nm fabrication process. While the fab will remain the same as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, the tipster claims that the upcoming SoC will have a different cluster setup.

The Gen 2 SoC will feature a 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 configuration as opposed to the 1+ 3 + 4 setup on the current lineup. It will have one Makalu generation core, another cluster with two Makalu generation cores, followed by two Matterhorn cores, and three Klein R1 cores. The Makalu core could be the upcoming Prime X3 core, whereas the Makalu refers to the 2022 Cortex CPUs. This means that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC could feature a Cortex-X3 core, two Cortex-A720 cores, two Cortex-A720 cores and three low-power Cortex-A510 cores. The CPU cores could be paired with an Adreno 740 GPU.

Smartphones with the new Gen 2 flagship SoC are likely to debut later this year. Like every year, we can expect Xiaomi to be among the first ones to launch its next-generation flagship smartphones with the new Snapdragon high-end chipset.
