Sony PlayStation 5 Access Controller Features

The PlayStation 5 Access Controller is all about gaming as accessible and inclusive as possible. It is a highly customizable controller that users can tweak as per their needs and preferences. The goal is to help disabled gamers enjoy gaming sessions without any discomfort or issues and that too for a longer period.

Sony says it worked closely with several accessibility experts and organizations like AbleGamers, Stack-Up, and SpecialEffect to develop and design the new controller. It further tested the controller with dozens of participants spread across three continents to ensure it worked as intended.

The PlayStation 5 Access Controller comes with 19 interchangeable button caps and three stick caps. These caps are available in different shapes and designs so that disabled gamers can configure them to suit their specific physical needs, strength, and range of motion. It can be placed in any 360-degree orientation, on flat surfaces, on a wheelchair tray, or attached to an AMPS pattern mount or tripod.

Gamers can create up to 30 control profiles on the PlayStation 5 console. They can adjust stick settings, toggle commands on/off, disable buttons to stop accidental pressing, or even map two different inputs onto the same button.

The controller comes with four 3.5mm expansion ports that can be used to connect additional buttons, specialty trigger switches, and other compatible accessories. There is also support for using up to two Access controllers and one DualSense wireless controller to create a single virtual controller.

Sony has also paid attention to the PlayStation 5 Access Controller packaging. It comes in accessible and inclusively-designed packaging that can be opened with one hand. It has interior slots for easily organizing kit components in a single layer for easy identification and access.
