The Vivo X Fold 2 foldable smartphone is set to get a successor in China soon. Digital Chat Station, a well-known tipster on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, hinted that the Vivo X Fold 3 may be thinner and lighter than many of its competitors, including the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5 and OnePlus Open. Further, other rumours have led many to believe that Vivo might even launch two smartphones in the Vivo X Fold 3-series — a vanilla Vivo X Fold 3, as well as a Pro variant.

The forthcoming foldable smartphones are tipped to debut in China at the end of Q1 or early Q2 of 2024.

Vivo X Fold 3: Lighter Than Honor Magic V2?

Digital Chat Station disclosed on Weibo that the upcoming Vivo X Fold 3 will have a thickness of 5mm when unfolded and 10.5mm when folded, making it about 3mm slimmer than the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5.

Going by the tip, it’ll weigh between 220 and 229 grams, so expect it to be lighter than the Honor Magic V2, while being thicker.

The Vivo X Fold 3 will be cherished by those who prefer a book-style foldable form-factor.

Apart from this, the tipster also revealed that Vivo might equip the vanilla variant with the previous-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. For context, we’ve seen this chipset in the flagships of 2023, and it is powered by a Cortex X3 core clocked at 3.2GHz, two Cortex A715 cores at 2.8GHz and three Cortex A510 cores at 2.0GHz, along with an Adreno 740 GPU.

We can expect all this to be mated with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Further, Origin OS 14 based on Android 14 will likely run on this hardware.

Vivo X Fold 3 vs Vivo X Fold 3 Pro: What Will be the Difference?

The Pro variant is likely to have a better chipset, display resolution, higher RAM capacity, a camera system with a periscope lens, and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor for biometrics. We will update you with more details as and when they surface online.

Expect the Vivo X Fold 3-series to be limited to China as of now.
