In the past few months, WhatsApp has been actively releasing new features in its app. The platform recently launched WhatsApp Channels, which helps influencers and creators connect with a larger audience, without sharing their phone numbers.

WhatsApp is now working on a feature to create group chat events. It will allow users to schedule an event to a specific date and time, and share it with all group members. The feature is currently under testing and is available to a limited set of WhatsApp Beta users.

WhatsApp Will Soon Let You Create Events in Group Chats

WABetaInfo has spotted a new feature in the latest beta version of WhatsApp, which will allow users to create events in a group chat. The feature appears to be similar to Google Calendar Events, where users can schedule an event, and add other details like agenda, time, date, location, etc.

As per the screenshots from the beta version, users will also be able to set the event with a video call. It looks like WhatsApp is trying to offer a Google Meet-like experience with its events feature.

A few weeks back, WhatsApp released a feature that allowed users to share their screens during a video call. The platform also offers a function where users can create a link to a video call, and share it with other users. With the new events feature, WhatsApp will have the same functionality as Google Meet as users will be able to create and schedule meetings, and even share their screen directly.

WhatsApp’s create event feature has been spotted in the latest beta version on Android. The exact version number is 2.23.21.12, which was released on October 11. However, not all beta users can access this feature.

WABetaInfo’s screenshot also shows that users will have to update their WhatsApp application to the latest version, to use the create events feature. If a user does not have the latest version of the app, they will not be able to see or join the invite to the event.

As of now, it looks like the events can only be created in WhatsApp Community groups. It is not clear whether these event invites can be shared outside the group chat or not. WhatsApp could also offer the option to only allow Group Admins to create events, with a setting.

Considering the timeline of features that WhatsApp has released so far, with screen sharing in group calls and link sharing for video calls, we can expect the events feature to soon roll out in normal group chats, and even individual chats as well. It is clear that WhatsApp is trying to offer all types of features natively in the app, so that the user does not leave the app to do a specific activity.
