WhatsApp’s Picture-in-Picture mode is getting a much-anticipated upgrade. The popular WhatsApp beta tracking publication, WABetaInfo has found a new feature in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.7.10.73 update. Let’s take a look at the new feature.

WhatsApp PiP Mode Will Soon Support Shared Videos

As per the report, WhatsApp users will soon be able to watch videos shared directly with them in chats, in picture-in-picture mode. This will allow users to watch the video in a floating window while using WhatsApp. Before this, when the user clicked on a video shared, it opened in full-screen, restricting users from using the app.

WhatsApp will soon roll out PiP mode for videos.
WhatsApp will soon roll out PiP mode for videos.

Although, the feature won’t work if a user switches to another app. Currently, the feature is under development and we can expect the feature to roll out to general users on Android and iOS in the coming days.

WhatsApp introduced the picture-in-picture mode on its platform back in February 2023. The feature allowed users to watch videos hosted on third-party services like YouTube, FaceBook, and Instagram, without leaving the app. Earlier, clicking video links would redirect users to the browser and leave WhatsApp.

The PiP mode was a welcome change as users could continue to chat with their contacts while still watching the video shared in a link. It improved the video-watching experience by a great deal for the users. Speaking of which, the company recently introduced new video playback options for iOS users.

WhatsApp users on iOS can skip forward or rewind WhatsApp video messages by double-tapping the edge of the display. It’s more convenient than dragging the playback slider to rewind or fast forward.
