Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi Pad 8 in India, expanding its tablet lineup with a device positioned as a portable productivity tool rather than just a large-screen entertainment device. Running HyperOS 3 and powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 platform, the tablet is designed to bring laptop-style workflows into a lighter and more mobile form factor.
The launch reflects Xiaomi's effort to position tablets as everyday computing devices for students, creators and professionals who want the flexibility of a touchscreen device without carrying a full laptop.
Xiaomi Pushes Tablets Toward Laptop-Style Workflows
The Pad 8 is built around a productivity-first approach. Xiaomi has introduced a feature called Workstation Mode that aims to make multitasking feel closer to a desktop environment. Users can run multiple apps simultaneously and switch between tasks more easily, while the browser experience now includes features such as right-click functionality and hover previews typically associated with PCs.
Speaking about the launch, Anuj Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer at Xiaomi India, said the device reflects changing computing habits. As more users work, study and create while on the move, devices need to combine portability with performance rather than forcing users to choose between the two.
Accessories Aim to Expand Use Cases
Xiaomi is also expanding the tablet's capabilities through accessories. The Focus Pen Pro stylus supports pressure-sensitive input for writing, sketching and annotating documents, while keyboard accessories allow the device to function more like a laptop for typing-heavy workflows.
These additions position the Pad 8 as a device that can shift between different roles throughout the day, whether it is used for note-taking in classrooms, reviewing documents during meetings or watching content during downtime.
Xiaomi Targets the Space Between Premium Tablets and Laptops
In terms of positioning, Xiaomi appears to be targeting the space between premium tablets and entry-level laptops. Apple's iPad lineup and Samsung's Galaxy Tab series continue to dominate the tablet conversation, particularly in the premium segment.
Xiaomi's strategy with the Pad 8 is to deliver many of the same productivity-focused capabilities at a lower price point, making it more accessible for users who want a tablet that can double as a work device.

The Xiaomi Pad 8 starts at ₹33,999 for the 8GB and 128GB variant, while the 12GB and 256GB model is priced at ₹36,999. A nano-texture display variant is available at ₹38,999.
