As mentioned before, Apple will reportedly revamp its Apple TV app in the coming months. The news comes from a Bloomberg report, which quoted people with knowledge of the matter with the condition of anonymity as the plan is private. If the report is to be believed, Apple is preparing to consolidate all its video streaming services in the Apple TV app, which is the center stage of all video streaming experiences already.

According to the report, Apple plans to remove dedicated apps on the Apple TV STB, which allow users to rent and purchase movies or shows. The revamped Apple TV app will have a unified interface similar to Prime Video and Netflix, where users can buy or rent titles in the same app.

Moreover, Apple will also remove the dedicated movie and TV show sections from the iTunes Store app on iPhones and iPads. This makes sense considering that these sections will be useless since the Apple TV app already allows users to rent and purchase movies and shows.

According to the Bloomberg report, the new re-designed Apple TV app on the Apple TV STB will bring a new interface with a side panel featuring all categories. This re-design will be similar to the interface of the existing OTT platforms like Netflix. The re-designed Apple TV will come to Apple TV devices as well as smart TVs from other brands that offer Apple TV support.

To recall, the Apple TV app launched in 2016 to aggregate content from Apple TV+, iTunes, live sports networks like MSL, and third-party OTT platforms. With the revamp and discontinuation of dedicated apps and iTunes section, Apple intends to steer all customers to the Apple TV app. Users will soon be able to purchase or rent content from Apple TV+, Starz, and Paramount+ among others from the Apple TV app itself. This is similar to what Amazon already does with its Prime Video app.
