Google recently introduced a new Google One AI Premium plan backed by Gemini and the plan is now adding AI features for Gmail, Docs, and other Workspace apps for personal accounts. According to the company, these new features allow you to “get more done without jumping between tabs or apps.” So, let’s take a closer look at what Gemini brings to the Workspace apps.

Gemini Integration Across Google Apps

Starting today, Google One subscribers opting for the new Rs 1,950 per month Google One AI Premium plan can use Gemini features in their personal Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Meet apps.

This rollout covers English language users in over 150 countries, including India. Interestingly, the plan is free for the first two months. Here’s a look at what this integration has to offer.

Gmail and Google Docs

In Gmail and Docs, Gemini brings features like “Help Me Write,” using generative AI to help draft emails and other content. It can “Formalise,” “Elaborate,” “Bullets,” “Summarise,” “Tone” (choose between “Formal” or “Casual”) or “Shorten” the content. You can also give it a “Custom” prompt, like asking it to turn your text into a poem.

Moreover, Google is also rolling out a “Proofread” feature in Docs that goes beyond the usual spelling and grammar check. It suggests conciseness, active voice, and wording improvements and even advises splitting complex sentences for better readability.

Google Slides and Sheet

Beyond words, Google Slides lets you create images with text prompts, and Google Sheets introduces “Help me organise” for custom tables and templates.

Furthermore, a new feature called “Enhanced Smart Fill” in Google Sheets reduces manual data organization and analysis, covering tasks like sentiment classification, combining and generating text, and more.

Google Meet

Last but not least, Google Meet users now have some handy features called Studio lighting, Look, and sound. These features tweak lighting, sharpen details, and improve audio quality.

Gemini Chat in Google Workspace

Google Workspace customers also get access to the standalone “Chat with Gemini” feature at gemini.google.com. It can be used for various generative AI requirements while benefiting from enterprise-grade data protections and copyright indemnification.

The company has assured that customers’ interactions with Gemini are not utilised for advertising or enhancing Google’s generative machine-learning technologies. They remain private, not subject to human review, and are not shared with other users or organisations.
