Apple is rumoured to bring significant upgrades to the iPhone 15 Pro Max this year. The camera is one of the areas set to get a huge upgrade in a long time but seems like it could also be the reason behind the delay. A new report has emerged revealing iPhone 15 Pro Max shipments could get delayed by as much as a month.
Sony Unable to Supply Camera Sensors for iPhone 15 Pro Max
The 9to5Mac report cites a “major equity analyst note” to make the claim. It says the primary reason for the delay is related to component supply. Sony is said to be unable to provide the required camera sensors in time for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. As a result, its shipment is expected to get pushed back by three to four weeks.
Apple is rumoured to launch the iPhone 15 series in September. The exact date is unknown but reports suggest it could be September 12. It means iPhone 15 Pro Max buyers could have to wait until mid-October to get their hands on the new device.
The supply issue is affecting only the iPhone 15 Pro Max as it is tipped to be the only model in the series to feature a periscope zoom lens. This will allow it to offer higher optical zoom capabilities (up to 10x) which are limited to 3X on the current-gen iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. It will be a feature exclusive to the high-end model as even iPhone 15 Pro will not receive it.
This is not the first time we will see Apple launch a specific iPhone model later than others. We saw the iPhone 14 Plus arrive late in the market as compared to the iPhone 14. At the time of the iPhone 12 series, Apple had to delay the availability of the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
iPhone 15 Pro Max or iPhone 15 Ultra?
There have also been rumours about Apple changing the name of the most expensive iPhone. It is using the “Pro Max” nomenclature to differentiate it from the rest of the models but could opt for “Ultra” going forward. It means the alleged iPhone 15 Pro Max could actually launch as the iPhone 15 Ultra.
The change will surely make it a lot easier to speak as “iPhone 15 Pro Max” is a mouthful. There will also be noteworthy feature improvements to the device. It is said to be powered by the new 3nm Apple A17 Bionic processor. There is tipped to be a USB Type-C port and a new Action button. This new button is said to replace the ring/silent profile switch button. It is reported to be a multi-functional button that will allow users to control a variety of things.
