  • The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus are expected to be announced in 2025.
  • The ProMotion displays, so far, have been exclusive to the Pro series smartphones.

Apple introduced the 120Hz ProMotion display panels with the iPhone 14 Pro series in 2022. The company, so far, has kept the ProMotion displays exclusive to Pro series smartphones. Now, a new report by The Elec claims that the entire iPhone 17 lineup will feature ProMotion displays.

Non-Pro iPhones to Finally Get a 120Hz Display

The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus are expected to launch in September 2025 and will be the first non-Pro models to feature LTPO display panels. This means that we could even see the always-on functionality on the entire iPhone 17 series which has so far been exclusive to Pro models. Let us take a look at the details.

For those unaware, the LTPO display panels enable dynamic refresh rate and allow the display to refresh in the 1Hz to 120Hz range depending on the task. In always-on-display mode, the LTPO displays usually function at a very low refresh rate, such as 1Hz, to save as much power as possible.

It is also suggested that Apple could source the LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) panel from BOE for the iPhone 17 and 17 Plus. Currently, this is done by LG. This was reportedly expected for the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup but delays in sample sharing have pushed this further. It remains to be seen whether or not Apple will go for BOE in 2025 and how the display supplier competes with Samsung and LG.

The iPhone 17 series is expected to include four models – iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Plus, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Earlier a report revealed that iPhone 17 series will feature an upgraded 24MP selfie camera. Also, as per another report, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will offer a 48MP telephoto lens.

You should know that these are rumours and there’s nothing concrete available at the moment. However, this would be very exciting if this pans out and can even result in much higher iPhone sales, especially in India, which has now become a major market for Apple. That said, You should take these with a pinch of salt and wait to see how the iPhone 17 rumours turn out. We will keep you in the loop, so, stay tuned.
