The rumour mill has not been consistent in sharing the details about the next-gen iPhone SE model. Some of the reports even claimed there would not be any new models due to poor sales of the iPhone SE 3. But for the last few months, multiple reports have claimed the iPhone SE 4 is indeed under development. They have also offered details about the possible design and features and now, we have a fresh report corroborating those claims.

iPhone SE 4 to Have Modified iPhone 14 Chassis

The folks over at MacRumors have cited their sources to reiterate previous claims that the iPhone SE 4 will finally launch with a new and modern design. The upcoming model is rumoured to take inspiration from the last year’s iPhone 14 in the design department.

Apple has launched three iPhone SE models so far which are iPhone SE (2016), iPhone SE (2020), and the latest iPhone SE (2022). The original model had a design resemblance with the iPhone 5s and the other two models are based on the iPhone 8. It goes without saying that these models look outdated when you place them next to any other iPhone launched since the iPhone X in 2017.

The Cupertino-based tech giant is finally appearing to be ready to change the iPhone SE design language. The next-gen model is reported to have a modified iPhone 14 chassis. The overall design will stay the same except for one major difference. It will have a single camera on the back instead of dual cameras. This is said to be a 48MP camera sensor codenamed Portland.

The single-camera design is said to make the iPhone SE 4 slightly lighter than the iPhone 14. It will reportedly weigh 165 grams as compared to 172 grams. The chassis will further have no changes, not even for materials. One of its prototypes has been seen in black colour resembling the Midnight shade available on the iPhone 14.

The iPhone SE 4 has a device identifier D59 and is internally codenamed Ghost. It will finally mark the farewell of Touch ID from iPhones as Apple will opt for Face ID. The upcoming model is also said to have a USB Type-C port and an Action Button. The latter is a new customizable multi-purpose button that Apple debuted on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Reports suggest that Apple is planning a 2025 launch timeline for the iPhone SE 4. However, all of the aforementioned details are part of the pre-production stage. It means things could change anytime until the devices undergo production. We will keep you in the loop as and when new details will surface, so stay tuned.
