WhatsApp introduced the ability to send videos and photos in HD quality back in August 2023. The feature requires that users tap on the HD button at the top when selecting media to share photos and videos of higher quality with their contacts. But it looks like the Meta-owned instant messaging service is simplifying the process of sending HD media.
WhatsApp Beta for Android Gets Simplified HD Media Sharing Option
WABetaiInfo reports that users will soon be able to set default media quality for sharing instead of selecting media quality manually every time. The feature has been spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.7.17.
As you can see in the screenshot above, users can set standard quality or HD quality as the default media upload quality. To do this, users must update WhatsApp to the latest beta version and follow the steps below. Users have to enroll for the public beta to get this version of WhatsApp. The feature should be rolled out to general users in the coming days.
- Open WhatsApp beta on your phone.
- Click on the three-dot icon in the top left corner.
- Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
- Click on Storage and Data.
- Click on Media Upload Quality to enable the desired quality.
Standard quality compresses the file resolution to share faster, while HD quality sends a 6x larger file size for better quality but is slower to send. Moreover, not all media can be sent in HD quality as of now; only high-resolution media supports the feature.
The new feature adds a layer of convenience to the platform’s media-sharing ability by eliminating the extra step of sending HD videos or photos. It also gives users flexibility to decide whether they want to send high-resolution media for content or share the media as soon as possible.
Additionally, WhatsApp has rolled out video playback options to iOS users. WhatsApp users on iOS can now skip forward or rewind WhatsApp video messages they receive by double-tapping the edge of the display. Currently, users need to drag the video playback slider to rewind or fast forward.
