realme has launched the C85 5G in India, aiming directly at buyers who want exceptionally long battery life and rugged design in the budget 5G segment. The standout specification is the 7000mAh battery, a capacity still uncommon in the sub-₹15,000 market and one that positions the phone against new-age rivals from Vivo's Y-series, iQOO's Z-series and Lava's growing Z-range.
Competing in the 7000mAh Club and the Under-₹15K Race
Large batteries have slowly made a comeback in the budget category, but only a handful of brands are experimenting with 6000–7000mAh units today. Vivo has its Y28s 5G and select Y-series refreshes focused on battery-heavy users. iQOO is leaning on performance-first models like the Z7 Lite but still sticks to 5000mAh units. Lava has earned attention with the Agni and Yuva lines, particularly the Agni 2 Lite, but again stays within the standard battery capacities.
This makes realme one of the few brands offering a full 7000mAh battery paired with 45W charging under ₹15,000. Most competitors offer fast charging but remain at 5000mAh. Even models marketed for endurance, such as Vivo's entry Y-series or Lava's Yuva phones, do not combine high capacity with high wattage. The C85 5G is targeting users who want two days of uptime without compromising on recharge speed.
realme's second differentiator is durability. The C85 5G carries IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings, giving it protection against dust, immersion and high-pressure water. None of the major rivals in this bracket currently offer IP69. realme's Guinness World Records certification for mass water-resistance testing reinforces the durability pitch rather than serving as a marketing flourish.
The phone features a 6.8-inch HD+ display with a 144Hz refresh rate. High refresh displays are common in this category, but 144Hz remains rare and helps realme lean on smoothness as a user-facing advantage. The screen reaches 1200 nits in high brightness mode, and supports both DCI-P3 and sRGB colour gamuts.
Performance is handled by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 5G platform. This places the C85 5G alongside Vivo Y28s 5G and Lava Agni variants that focus on balanced efficiency rather than raw horsepower. realme UI 6.0 based on Android 15 gives it a software freshness edge, as many competitors still ship with Android 14.
The 50MP Sony IMX852 sensor on the main camera is a solid hardware choice at this price. Sony sensors are increasingly used by Vivo and iQOO in the ₹16,000 to ₹22,000 bracket, so realme bringing it under ₹15,000 helps it compete with brands known for camera tuning. Modes include Night, Street, PRO, Dual-view video, Cinematic video and an Underwater mode, which pairs with the IP rating. AI Edit Genie adds quick video and photo clean-ups.
Pricing Strategy and Availability
realme is offering two variants:
-
4GB + 128GB at ₹14,999 effective
-
6GB + 128GB at ₹16,499 effective
First sale runs from 28 November to 1 December across Flipkart, realme.com and mainline retail. EMI schemes with split down payments are available, similar to what Vivo and Lava offer on their offline push.
Betting on Big Battery
vivo currently leads the under-₹15K tier in offline markets with its battery-first Y-series. iQOO dominates performance-driven buyers with Z-series Lite variants. Lava has built a strong value narrative as a made-in-India option with clean software. None of these rivals, however, offers a 7000mAh plus 45W combination or IP69 protection at this price.
realme is betting on this gap. The C85 5G is not trying to win on chipset strength or camera versatility alone. Instead, it is shaping an identity around endurance and ruggedness, two factors that matter for users in smaller towns, frequent travellers and buyers who want a longer device lifespan without moving to the mid-range.
With this launch, realme strengthens its C-series proposition for mass-market users seeking a battery-first, worry-free 5G phone that can handle outdoor use and accidental water exposure.
