  • Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 will be ambitious and compelling.
  • Apple is also betting big on generative AI to compete with Google and OpenAI.
  • The company is also taking the quality of its software more seriously than ever.

Last week it was reported by Bloomberg that Apple has paused the development of the upcoming iOS 18 and macOS 15 in order to prioritise the bug fixes. Rather than working on new features, Apple had asked its employees to fix the flaws and improve the performance of the software. Now, in a recent development, it is being reported by Bloomberg that the iOS 18 will be the most ambitious and biggest update for the iPhone in years.

iOS 18 Also Could Include Generative AI Features

It is also reported that Apple is racing to catch up with Google and OpenAI in generative AI, and the company’s upcoming software is poised to bring such technology to the iPhones. The report also adds that considering that Apple is not going to make any hardware changes for the upcoming iPhone 16 series, the software will be a major factor for selling the new iPhone lineup. Furthermore, Apple’s senior management internally has described the iOS 18 as “ambitious and compelling,” which will also offer major new features, designs as well as security and performance improvements.

Apple is also taking the quality of its upcoming software more seriously than ever. Apple’s head of software engineering Craig Federighi had adopted a new policy in 2019 which his division calls The Pact, which read as: “We will never knowingly allow regressions in the build. And when we find them, we will fix them quickly.” This does mean in simple words that if a newly added feature caused a bug, it would be solved immediately.

At present, there are no details available as to which new features the Cupertino-based tech giant plans to implement in its next iOS version. We shall see the release of the iOS 18 at the company’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) event next year.

In a piece of related news, it was reported previously that Apple is set to spend close to $1 billion (Roughly Rs 8300 crore) per year on the generative AI. Through the generative AI Apple is planning to improve how the Siri and the Messages app can field questions and auto-complete sentences. The report also added that Apple plans to integrate AI in the Xcode, which no doubt will allow developers to write new application code quickly.
