  • Apple could offer 8GB of RAM across the whole iPhone 16 lineup.
  • The iPhone 16 Pro is reported to get a bump from Snapdragon X70 to the new Snapdragon X75 5G modem.
  • It is the first time we may see non-Pro iPhone models launch with 3nm processors.

A new iPhone 16 leak has surfaced and revealed Apple’s plans for the new lineup. It talks about hardware changes that are expected to this year as compared to the current-generation iPhone 15 series. These leaked changes are related to more RAM, faster WiFi speeds, and improved 5G performance. Some of these improvements are tipped exclusively for the iPhone 16 Pro, but a few are meant for non-Pro models too.

iPhone 16 to Bring RAM and WiFi Upgrades

As per a new 9to5Mac report, citing analyst Jeff Pu’s investor note, Apple plans to pack the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus with 8GB of RAM. This will be an improvement over the 6GB RAM available on the existing iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

If true, this will bring the non-Pro iPhone models’ RAM capacity to par with the iPhone Pro models. This essentially means the whole iPhone 16 lineup will launch with 8GB of RAM. Keep in mind that Apple itself never reveals the RAM on iPhones during launch announcements. Pu’s note further adds iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will come with WiFi 6E support. It should bring improvements over the currently supported WiFi 6 in terms of internet speed and latency.

Pu adds that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be powered by the new A18 processor. This is in line with a previous report that we talked about last month. It suggests a deviation from Apple’s approach in recent times where it has reserved the new processor for Pro models and offered the previous year’s processor on the base iPhone models. But, there will be differences between Pro and non-Pro models.

Despite getting the new A18 processor, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will not offer the same level of performance as Pro models. This is because the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will get the new A18 Pro chipset. The exact difference between the two chipsets is currently unknown, but the Pro variant will likely be more powerful.

iPhone 16 Pro to Deliver Improved 5G Connectivity

Apple is known to keep a few features exclusive to the iPhone Pro models to differentiate them from the vanilla models. Pu says the iPhone 16 Pro will come with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X75 5G modem. It is an upgraded version of the Snapdragon X70 5G modem seen on the current-gen iPhone 15 models.

The new Snapdragon X75 5G modem is touted to bring 5G network improvements in various areas. These include coverage, internet speed, latency, and power efficiency among others. We will have to wait and see to what extent these improvements will be visible in real-world usage.
