Apple iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have been grabbing headlines recently due to the now infamous titanium frame and fragile back panel. The company launched the iPhone 15 Pro series at the Wonderlust event held on September 13 and one of the highlights was the use of titanium instead of stainless steel.

However, soon after the launch and even before the launch, several images were doing the rounds of the internet showing discolouration and a halo effect around the physical buttons of these models. Apple has now confirmed that using the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max without a case might temporarily alter the look. Read on ahead to know what Apple has announced.

Apple has a dedicated support document for ‘Cleaning your iPhone‘ on its official website. On this page, the brand posts instructions about how to clean, disinfect, and maintain the original look of the iPhone. Apple has updated the document to address the iPhone 15 Pro series titanium frame discolouration issue.

According to Apple, “The oil from your skin might temporarily alter the color of the outside band. Wiping your iPhone with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth will restore the original look.”

As you can see, the company confirms that regular usage of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max without a case might alter the look of the titanium frame. This is because of the constant exposure to the natural oil of the skin. Apple advises users to wipe the frame with a soft, damp, and lint-free cloth to make it look new again.

For the uninitiated, the company also sells a premium Polishing Cloth for Rs 1,900 on its website in India. Not surprisingly, Apple has added the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max to the compatibility list of the polishing cloth. According to the product page, the Apple Polishing Cloth is made of soft, non-abrasive material, which can effectively wipe off discolouration. Additionally, it would be wise to slap on a good protective case to avoid exposing the titanium frame to the skin.

A case is also important because the popular YouTube channel JerryRigEverything revealed that despite the stronger titanium frame, the new iPhone 15 Pros are prone to cracking. According to Zack Nelson, he has been doing durability tests on smartphones for 11 years and most phones including older iPhones didn’t break as quickly as the iPhone 15 Pro Max did. Notably, the aluminium-titanium hybrid built on the new iPhones has compromised the structural integrity of these devices.

Granted no one is putting pressure on the back panel durability-test style, but putting on a rugged and premium case is a wise move. Moreover, if you are picking up an iPhone 15 Pro series model, the natural titanium colourway is the best this year as it doesn’t show the discolouration and scratches as prominently as the darker shades.
