WhatsApp is officially rolling out the new interface for Android users. Notably, the iOS-like overhaul of the Android app has been in beta testing since September 2023. Let’s take a look at all the changes in the new WhatsApp interface for Android.

WhatsApp Gets a New Interface on Android

The WhatsApp design overhaul brings the status bar from the top to the bottom, which is similar to WhatsApp on iOS. Moreover, instead of showing just three tabs —Chats, Status, and Calls—, it now shows four tabs. WhatsApp users can easily check Chats, Updates (Status and Channels), Communities, and calls.

The company has also added sleek icons for each tab with a green accent for notification counts to make them easily identifiable. The green accent is also lighter in shade than the usual WhatsApp green used in the previous interface that we all know too well. The new green matches the colour of the WhatsApp icon. Moreover, the top and bottom portions of the app are now white with black icons in light mode and black with white icons in dark mode.

Apart from the aesthetic changes, WhatsApp has also changed the way messages are displayed on the main chat screen. The main screen still shows all chats in one list with Archived chats on top. But now there are three segregations below Archived – All, Unread, and Groups. This makes it easier for the user to check all unread messages and the latest group messages in one place.

WhatsApp is rolling out the new interface to all Android users globally. If you have not received it yet, worry not as it might reach you in the coming days.
