A few months ago, a Redmi China GM, Lu Weibing talked about a compact handset. Since then, there hasn’t really been any news around the same. A couple of weeks ago, Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun took it to Weibo to share that there are still more than 2 million people who are still using Xiaomi Mi 6. To recall, Mi 6 was launched 4 years ago back in April 2017. Recently, Xiaomiui, found the references of an upcoming Xiaomi handset with codename ‘Mercury’, based on which it claims that the company could be working on a 2021 version of Mi 6. To recall, the company had also launched the Mi 6 also a Mercury Silver limited edition.

In response to Lei Jun’s post on Weibo, a user responded, and said that they want the company to launch Mi 6 replica. Lei Jun did respond back to the user’s request and said feedback received. To recall, the Mi 6 offered a 5.15-inch screen, with a 16:9 aspect ratio, and was considered a compact device back in the day. Connecting these dots together, it seems that the company would be working on Mi 6 2021 Edition.

Just last month, the company launched the Redmi Note 8 2021 Edition to celebrate the 25million sales milestone. To recall, the Xiaomi Mi 6 was the company’s flagship for 2017. It was the last Xiaomi flagship to offer a traditional 16:9 aspect ratio display. We can expect the company to go with a modern bezel-less punch-hole display in the 2021 edition of the smartphone.

Other specifications of the handset included an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and up to 6GB RAM. We can expect Xiaomi to upgrade the processor to Snapdragon 888, or Snapdragon 870 on Mi 6 2021 Edition. The Mi 6 offered a 12MP dual-rear camera setup, and was also the first Xiaomi device to come without a 3.5mm audio jack. What are your expectations from Mi 6 2021 Edition?
