Toshiba Z670SP MiniLED TVs Launched in India: 144Hz Panel, Front-Firing Speakers, Prices Start at ₹64,990

Toshiba has expanded its premium TV portfolio in India with the launch of the Z670SP series, marking its first MiniLED lineup in the country. Positioned as a step-up offering, the new range focuses on display performance, audio output, and AI-led optimisation as it looks to carve space in an increasingly competitive premium TV segment.

A Stronger Push Into MiniLED as the New Premium Default

With the Z670SP series, Toshiba is strengthening its presence in the MiniLED category, which is steadily emerging as a practical alternative to OLED in India's premium TV market. At the centre of this lineup is MiniLED backlighting, designed to deliver improved brightness control, deeper blacks, and stronger contrast compared to traditional LED panels.

This is paired with a native 144Hz refresh rate, which is becoming increasingly relevant as TVs double up as gaming displays. The higher refresh rate is expected to benefit fast-paced content such as sports and action-heavy scenes, while also aligning with the growing adoption of gaming consoles in Indian households.

Front-Firing Audio and AI Tuning Take Centre Stage

One of the more notable changes in this lineup is the use of front-firing speakers, a design choice that remains relatively uncommon in this segment. Instead of directing sound downward or backward, Toshiba is attempting to deliver more direct audio output towards the viewer, aiming for a more immediate and immersive listening experience without external sound systems.

This is supported by REGZA Power Audio+ and Eilex Prism tuning, which are designed to improve clarity and balance across different types of content. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support further round out the package, ensuring that both visual and audio performance are aligned with current premium expectations.

On the software side, REGZA Intelligence acts as the AI layer, dynamically adjusting picture and sound settings in real time. This reflects a broader shift in the TV market, where optimisation is increasingly handled through software rather than static presets.

Gaming and Processing Get a Clear Upgrade

Toshiba is also leaning into gaming as a key use case. The inclusion of Game Mode Pro is aimed at reducing input lag and improving responsiveness, which, when combined with the 144Hz panel, positions the Z670SP series as a more viable option for console gaming.

The REGZA Engine ZRi powers the overall picture processing, handling upscaling and ensuring consistent visual output across different resolutions. As screen sizes increase, this layer becomes critical in maintaining image quality, especially for non-4K content.

Pricing Strategy and Availability in India

The Toshiba Z670SP MiniLED series will be available in 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch, 85-inch, and 100-inch screen sizes, with prices starting at ₹64,990. The TVs will be sold through Amazon India, Flipkart, and Reliance Digital, along with offline retail channels.

Launch offers include cashback benefits, zero down payment options, and a two-year comprehensive warranty, indicating an attempt to make the entry pricing more attractive in a segment that is becoming increasingly price-sensitive despite premium positioning.

Where Toshiba Is Positioning Itself in This Segment

Toshiba's TV operations in India are managed by Hisense India, and this launch signals a continued push to compete more directly in the premium category. Commenting on the launch, Pankaj Rana said the new series is designed to meet evolving consumer expectations around immersive home entertainment while maintaining competitive pricing.

What stands out here is the attempt to build a more complete experience rather than relying on a single headline feature. MiniLED is no longer new in this segment, and high refresh rate panels are quickly becoming standard. The differentiation is shifting towards execution, where elements such as audio design, processing, and real-time optimisation begin to matter more. Whether this approach works will depend on how well these pieces come together in everyday use, especially against strong competition from brands that are already well established in this category.
