The Apple iPhone 17 lineup is likely two years away, but leaks around the smartphones have already started to pour in. The latest one suggests that the higher-end iPhone 17 Pro Max model will ship with an upgraded Telephoto lens. Haitong International Securities’ Jeff Pu wrote in a research note that the iPhone 17 Pro Max could sport a 48MP Telephoto lens.

Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max To Get 48MP Telephoto Lens

Apple is said to go with a higher MP Telephoto lens on the iPhone 17 Pro Max to offer optimisations for its Vision Pro headset, which will be available in the US starting in early 2024. However, the research note (via MacRumors) does not reveal details on how the 48MP Telephoto lens will be used with the Vision Pro headset. Do keep in mind that Apple might be testing out the feature and may decide to change its plan later on, so the report needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.

The current-generation iPhone 15 Pro models feature a 12MP Telephoto lens at the back, in addition to a 48MP primary camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. However, it looks like we could see a bump in the camera specifications on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, expected to launch in 2025.

Earlier this week, Apple rolled out the ability to record spatial videos and play them back on Vision Pro for iPhone 15 Pro users with the iOS 17.2 update. Users can start to record spatial videos after updating to iOS 17.2 to enjoy them later on the Vision Pro when it is available next year. The entire library of such videos will be accessible on the iCloud in the Photos app.

Apple iPhone 16 Pro Models Could Get 48MP Ultra-Wide Lens

Pu previously made predictions for the iPhone 16’s camera system as well. According to the analyst, iPhone 16 Pro models could launch with a 48MP ultra-wide camera lens, compared to a 12MP one on the iPhone 15 Pro models.

If these predictions turn out to be true, then the iPhone 17 Pro Max may come with three 48MP rear cameras.

If we go by rumours, then Apple is planning big changes for the iPhone 16 lineup as well. For starters, the iPhone 16 Pro is tipped to come with a bigger battery than the iPhone 15 Pro model. Apple is said to use its L-shaped battery design for the iPhone 16 Pro and may also introduce a metal shell covering for the battery.

Further, Apple also seems to be testing a hole-punch design for the iPhone 16 Pro, though it is unlikely that the company will make the switch from Dynamic Island so soon.

A recent report suggested that the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus models could get bigger screen sizes and the Dynamic Island feature will be available on all variants in the iPhone 16 lineup. To recall, the pill-shaped Dynamic Island feature was introduced in 2022 on the iPhone 14 Pro models, though it was extended to the entire iPhone 15 lineup when it debuted in 2023.

More changes rumoured for the iPhone 16 lineup are the introduction of a new capacitive button, and the transition of the Action button to capacitive. Apple iPhone 16 Pro models will reportedly be powered by the upcoming A18 Pro SoC. Meanwhile, Apple iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are said to pack the new A18 Bionic processor.
