Rumours surrounding Apple’s 2024 iPhone series have already started to pour. The latest one suggests that the Cupertino giant is testing a hole punch display for the iPhone 16 Pro model. However, the feature could likely be seen on the iPhone 17, the leak claims.

Apple’s 2024 iPhone series is said to include four phones – iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Tipster ‘Majin Bu’ put out a post on X, which reveals that the hole punch screen design is being tested for the iPhone 16 Pro model. Bu also posted an image render of how the hole punch display could look on the iPhone 16 Pro variant.

Apple Testing Hole Punch Display On iPhone 16 Pro

If one goes by Apple’s previous iPhone launches, then iPhone 16 models are also expected to feature displays with the Dynamic Island feature. However, ‘Bu’ suggests this could change on the upcoming iPhones, given Apple is testing a hole punch display on the iPhone 16 Pro. This means that Dynamic Island could be replaced by a hole punch on iPhones. However, do keep in mind that the details are yet to be finalised and the feature could arrive on iPhone 17 in 2025, as per the tipster.

To give a perspective, Apple introduced its interactive Dynamic Island feature for displays on the iPhone 14 Pro models and it was extended on all iPhone 15 variants. Dynamic Island is a pill-shaped cutout on top of the display that holds the front camera. Dynamic Island is interactive and it can display notifications such as incoming calls, music controls, etc. Users can tap on these notifications to interact with them.

It is unclear if Apple plans to launch the feature on the iPhone Pro models as it did with Dynamic Island, which was only launched on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max initially, or if the other iPhone models could also get a hole punch display. It was only with the iPhone 15 series that Dynamic Island came to non-Pro models as well. This means that all iPhone 15 models, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max sport the Dynamic Island feature.

It is also possible that Apple decides to not launch the hole punch feature at all, given it is only being tested and a final decision could be made next year. The leak needs to be taken to be taken with a pinch of salt given there is no official confirmation.

Apple iPhone 16 Pro Models To Pack New A18 Pro SoC

According to leading Apple supply chain analyst Jeff Pu, Apple iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could launch with the new A18 Pro SoC. Meanwhile, Apple iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are said to pack a new A18 Bionic processor.

Apple is also expected to introduce a new capacitive button on the iPhone 16 series. The mmWave antenna, which is present on the right edge of the current-generation iPhone models, could be relocated to the right on iPhone 16 to accommodate the new button. However, the function of the capacitive button is not known at this point.

In addition, the Action button, which was introduced on the iPhone 15 is also tipped to be updated to be capacitive on the iPhone models, as per a report by MacRumors.
