A few weeks back, we an alleged hands-on video showcasing Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship smartphone with a manual slider design had been leaked online. While most of us were expecting the smartphone to be launched as the Mi Mix 3, a new rumor out of China has claimed that may not actually be the case. Instead, the new rumor suggests Xiaomi will be using a completely different name for the device.

Xiaomi’s First Slider Phone to be Named Mi LEX?

Going by the latest rumor, Xiaomi will be marketing its first all-screen smartphone featuring a manual sliding top as the Xiaomi LEX. To be honest, the name does sound very similar to NEX, so we are not entirely sure if we should take this new rumor seriously. Aside from the name, however, the new rumor does not reveal anything new with regards to the key specifications or features of the upcoming smartphone. That said, we do expect to find out a lot more about the Xiaomi Mi LEX in the coming weeks.

Xiaomi Mi LEX: What to Expect

If the new rumor is indeed accurate and the first Xiaomi flagship with a manual slider design will be launched as the Mi LEX, we can expect it to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, just like the other Xiaomi flagship smartphones that were released this year. Rumors suggest the smartphone will feature a full-screen display measuring around 6.4-inches diagonally. The display resolution, on the other hand, could likely be Full HD+, just like the Mi 8. In terms of memory, the Mi LEX is expected to be available in three memory configurations. The base variant of the smartphone will have 6GB of RAM paired with 64GB of internal storage, while the middle variant might feature the same 6GB of RAM paired with 128GB of internal storage. The most expensive variant of the smartphone is expected to feature 8GB of RAM coupled with 256GB of internal storage. Further memory expansion, however, will likely not be supported.

In terms of optics, the Xiaomi Mi LEX could feature 20MP + 20MP dual rear cameras with both optical image stabilization and electronic image stabilization. For selfies, the Mi LEX could come equipped with a 20MP or 24MP snapper on the front with a host AI-backed features such as AI Portrait, AI Beautify, and more. Similar to the company’s Mi 8 Explorer and Mi 8 Pro smartphones, the upcoming Mi LEX is likely to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. Wireless charging will be supported as well, just like the Mi MIX 2S. The battery capacity is expected to be somewhere around 4000mAh. It will likely have Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 support as well for rapid charging speeds.

Connectivity-wise, we expect the Mi LEX to support Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, NFC, Dual 4G VoLTE, and a USB Type-C port. On the software front, Mi LEX is expected to ship with the Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10 out of the box. The Mi LEX is also rumored to be the company’s first smartphone to come with a dedicated Xiao AI button. Thankfully, however, Xiaomi will reportedly allow users to remap the key to perform a different action.

Xiaomi Mi LEX: Expected Price in India

Unlike its budget Android lineup, Xiaomi usually takes quite long to bring its flagship-grade smartphones to the Indian market. And except for a few models, most of its flagship handsets have not been launched in the Indian market. So there is a chance that the Mi LEX may never arrive in India. In case it does, we expect the smartphone to be priced somewhere around the Rs.35,000 mark.
