If you have an account in the State Bank of India (SBI), one of the most popular banks in India, there is a good chance that you’ve registered your phone number with your SBI account to get instant updates on every transaction. However, can you change your mobile number that is linked to an SBI account? Yes, you can do it quite easily in a couple of ways.

The first one is by visiting the OnlineSBI portal and the second method is for those who do not have access to Internet banking on the SBI portal – by visiting the nearest ATM. Both methods work effectively and we have written this guide to help you change the registered mobile number in a few simple steps. Once the mobile number is updated, you will continue getting your regular transaction update on the new number as long as you have SMS banking enabled.

How to Change Registered Mobile Number of SBI Account Using Onlinesbi

Before we get started, it is worth mentioning that to change your registered mobile number using this method, you will need to have a valid username and password for SBI internet banking. In case you don’t have one, you can visit the nearest bank branch and get it done. Once you have the valid username and password, you can follow the below-mentioned steps.

  1. Login to Onlinesbi portal by entering a valid username and password
  2. Go to Profile > Personal Details
  3. Enter Profile password, you will see Display Name, Email ID and mobile number registered.
  4. Click on the link that says ‘Change Mobile Number-Domestic only (Through OTP/ATM)’.
  5. On the new screen, you get a prompt to enter the new mobile twice, enter the new mobile number and click the submit button.
  6. You will get a pop-up message which says ‘’Verify and confirm your mobile number xxxxxxxxxx’.
  7. Click on Ok and proceed.
  8. A new screen with three different modes for approval of change of mobile number will be displayed – (a) By OTP on both the Mobile Number and (b) IRATA : Internet Banking Request Approval through ATM

How to Change Registered Mobile Number of SBI Account by OTP on both the Mobile Number

  1. Click the circular button which has the option ‘By OTP on both the Mobile Number’ and click ‘Proceed’.
  2. Select the account by clicking the button, for which you have the debit card and click on ‘Proceed’
  3. You will be directed to SBI’s ATM card Validation screen where you will see active and closed ATM cards associated with the selected bank account.
  4. Click on the active ATM card and select ‘Confirm’.
  5. The selected ATM card number will be displayed.
  6. Enter the card details (Expiry Date, Card Holder Name, PIN and Enter the text as shown in the image) and then click on the ‘Proceed’ button.
  7. On successful validation, the system will send OTP along with a reference number on your old as well as new mobile number.
  8. Once that’s done, now you will have to send SMS from both new and old mobile numbers in the following format: ACTIVATE <8 digit OTP value> <13 digit reference number> to 567676 within 4 hrs. e.g. ACTIVATE 12345678 UM12051500123
  9. Once the SMS validation is successful, the new mobile number will be copied in Internet Banking, Core Banking Solution, and ATM. A successful message will also be displayed on your mobile number.

How to Change Registered Mobile Number of SBI Account by Internet Banking Request Approval through ATM

  1. Click the circular button with the option ‘IRATA : Internet Banking Request Approval through ATM’ and click on ‘Proceed’.
  2. Select the account by clicking the button, for which you have the debit card and click on ‘Proceed’
  3. You will be directed to SBI’s ATM card Validation screen where you will see active and closed ATM cards associated with the selected bank account.
  4. Click on the active ATM card and select ‘Confirm’.
  5. The selected ATM card number will be displayed.
  6. Enter the card details (Expiry Date, Card Holder Name, PIN and Enter the text as shown in the image) and then click on the ‘Proceed’ button.
  7. On successful validation, the following message will be displayed on the screen: “Thanks for registering your mobile number with us. The status of your request is pending. Kindly complete the registration process according to the option selected by you. Click here to see the guidelines for process completion.”
  8. You will get a SMS saying “Reference No. for Change/Update mobile number is : UMXXXXXXXXXXX and your IRATA reference number is XXXXXXXXXX” will be sent by system on your new mobile number.
  9. After you get this message, you will have to visit any State Bank Group ATM, swipe your card, select the ‘Services’ tab and enter your PIN.
  10. Click on the ‘Others’ tab on the ATM screen and choose ‘Internet Banking Request Approval’ option and enter the 10-digit reference number for approval of the request.
  11. On successful completion of the process, the request will be fulfilled.
  12. Once the validation is done, the new mobile number will be updated in Internet Banking, Core Banking Solution, and ATM and you will also get a SMS on your mobile number.

How to Check Status for Updation/Change of Mobile Number Online

Once you have done any of the two aforementioned process, you can keep a track of the status of your mobile number change online. Here is how you can check the status of updation or change of mobile number online.

  1. Login to OnlineSBI
  2. Go to ‘Profile’ > click on ‘Personal Details’ where you will see the Display Name, Email ID and mobile number registered
  3. Click on ‘Change Mobile Number-Domestic only (Through OTP/ATM)’.
  4. A new window ‘Personal Details-Mobile Number Update’ with three tabs ‘Create Request’, ‘Cancel Request’ and ‘Status’ will appear.
  5. Click on the ‘Status’ to check the current status of your request to change mobile number.
  6. In case you wish to cancel the request, you can click on ‘Cancel Request’ tab and click on request.
  7. You will get a message on the screen saying ‘Your Reference Number UMxxxxxxxxxx is successfully cancelled’ will be displayed on the screen.

How to Change Registered Mobile Number of SBI Account using ATM

You can also update the mobile number of your SBI account by going to any SBI ATM. All you need to do is follow these steps:

  1. Go to the nearest State Bank ATM and insert your debit card
  2. Select ‘Registration’ and enter your ATM PIN
  3. Select ‘Update your mobile number’ option.
  4. Enter your old mobile number and confirm it.
  5. Enter your new mobile number and click on confirm.
  6. You will get OTP on both numbers
  7. Once you get the OTP, you can send SMS from the new number to 567676.
  8. Once the validation is done, the details will be updated in the bank servers.
