The Samsung Galaxy M31 offers the best display, camera quality, software experience, and battery life in its segment. However, its super-slow performance is a huge letdown. The device feels so sluggish that at a point you don’t care about the positive bits of the device; you just feel like throwing it away for its poor performance. In spite of many class-leading features, I’d suggest you go for Xiaomi or Realme smartphones in the segment, which may not offer features as good as that of the Galaxy M31 but they get your work done and offer tremendous reliability.

Vivo Y20 features 6.5-inch display and the hardware is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage that is further expandable. It comes triple rear cameras that is decent for the price and a reliable selfie camera. But more importantly, the phone gets 5,000mAh battery with 18W charging speed. However, the screen resolution and hardware on board are a big downer for the price and with the existing competition.

Poco X3 Pro is the ideal mid-range phone in the market for power-hungry users. It has pretty much everything you need. Big screen with support for 120Hz refresh rate, Android 11-based software, decent cameras on both sides and IP rating for splash-proof resistance. You also get long battery backup with 33W fast charging supported. However, the only drawbacks are hybrid storage slot and a bulky design can be uncomfortable to use. Poco X3 Pro is a definite choice for buyers.

The Vivo Y18 features a 6.56-inch LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, providing an acceptable viewing experience and moderately smooth scrolling. Powered by the MediaTek Helio G85 SoC, the phone handles everyday tasks such as calling, texting, scrolling through Instagram, and watching YouTube videos well, with only minor lags and stutters. However, intensive games like BGMI and Call of Duty: Mobile can only be played at the lowest settings and crashed multiple times during our testing. In contrast, casual games like Subway Surfers and 2048 run smoothly on this device. The phone has a 50MP primary camera and 0.08MP secondary camera on the back, and an 8MP front camera for selfies. The photo quality is average but sufficient for basic needs. It is equipped with a 5000mAh battery that supports 15W charging, which is relatively slow. The device runs on Funtouch OS 14, based on Android 14, and can feel somewhat laggy at times. Overall, considering its features and performance, the Vivo Y18 is a solid choice in the under-10K price segment.

The only thing that the POCO M2 Pro lacks is a display with a high refresh rate. The rest of the specifications of the device are the best in class. If you can compromise on a high refresh rate display, you can’t get a better phone than the POCO M2 Pro in this price range. However, if you want a high refresh rate, go for the Realme 6 Pro.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite can be recognised for its slim design and lightweight body. The phone uses mid-range Snapdragon 732G chipset with 6GB RAM that gives you reliable performance. The AMOLED screen features 90Hz refresh rate and gets Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection as well. The rear cameras give you decent quality and you get the promise of long battery backup. However, a hybrid slot is a drawback. Worth going for if you need a reliable and lightweight phone.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro Max features a bright and large display, packs the Snapdragon 720G chipset, which is good for the price and comes with quality set of rear cameras. It also offers over a day's battery life with the 5,000mAh battery that charges in quick time with the support for 33W fast charging. However, at this price, the phone's screen does not support 90Hz refresh rate and MIUI software still has a lot of bloatware. Still, the phone is a decent bet for the mid-range segment.

The Realme 6 Pro brings the features that we are used to seeing in the upper mid-range smartphone to the lower mid-range price bracket. The quad-camera setup at the rear, especially, is a show stopper. It features a 64MP primary camera, something that even the flagships like OnePlus 8 don’t offer, a proper telephoto camera, which I think is the first in the segment, and an 8MP ultrawide sensor. The front camera setup is no slouch; you get a 16MP main sensor and an 8MP ultrawide unit. Then comes the silky-smooth 90Hz display, a first in the segment. And to drive the screen, the powerful Snapdragon 720G SoC. To top things off you get the fastest charging in the segment – 30 watts – to quickly recharge the large 4300mAh battery pack.

The OPPO Reno2 Z has a great set of cameras, and it looks uber stylish, but it leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to performance and software. The combination of a notch-less AMOLED screen, Dolby Atmos audio, and 3.5mm headphone jack offers immersive media consumption experience and the phone lasts long on a single charge. Heck, it even comes with 20W fast charger inside the box. We wish it had a faster processor and some form of water splash resistance.

The Vivo Z1x is a result of Vivo correcting the mistakes it did with the Vivo Z1Pro. The company has now used an AMOLED screen instead of an LCD panel, an under-display fingerprint reader instead of a rear-mounted one, a 48MP camera instead of a 16MP one, a USB Type-C port instead of a microUSB port, and improved fast charging speeds. The phone now has fast performance, bright and clear screen, good set of cameras, and long battery life. The only area we wish it was better at is the software design. FunTouch continues to be feature-rich but it needs to learn how to look good and behave well, and not mimic iOS’ design.

OPPO F19s faces tough fight in the market, even though it gets a compact design. The hardware is average for the price, so are the main cameras at the back. You get AMOLED screen but lacks high refresh rate support. It get 6GB RAM by default with 128GB storage which can be expanded further. Android 11-based ColorOS fares well and the battery life should satisfy most users, especially with its 33W fast charging support. Loses out to better options in the market for us.

Realme Narzo 20 Pro gives you 65W fast charging support, the fastest in the segment. It packs a 6.5-inch Full HD display and powered by octa-core Helio G95 processor with 6GB RAM. The storage is expandable and the camera setup on the front and back do a decent job. But at this price, the phone's display offers no high refresh rate and the battery life is average at best.

The Realme 3 Pro is a worthy competitor to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro. With its great IPs screen, wonderful gaming performance, superb shooters, and impressive battery life, the Realme 3 Pro challenges the Note 7 Pro in pretty much every category. While the phones are comparable when it comes to their hardware, the Realme's ColorOS 6 helps it gain a clear advantage over its competitor.

The Samsung Galaxy M40 is a decent mid-range device but it can’t hold its own against competitors like Realme X or even Samsung’s very own Galaxy A50.

The Samsung Galaxy J8 is not a bad smartphone altogether. However, other smartphones in the same price range offer more than the Galaxy J8. I think you should consider Redmi Note 6 Pro instead.

The Vivo Z1 Pro is impressive in parts, be it styling, performance, battery life, or fast charging. However, it fails to present itself as an all-rounder. Its cameras are underwhelming and so is its software UI. Vivo also failed to equip the phone with a USB Type-C port, which most phones in its segment come with in 2019.

Samsung Galaxy A22 is a peculiar device. It gets a Super AMOLED panel but only with support for HD+ screen resolution. The phone comes powered by MediaTek G80 Helio chipset which is average for this price these days. Add to that you have average cameras, and the only good thing is that you get it with Android 11 out of the box and a long battery life. But that also with 15W fast charging which is nowhere close to the standard these days. Better to skip this device for others from Xiaomi, Realme and more.

Nokia 5.4 is the latest device from the brand in the market. This device sits in the mid-range bracket, with focus on pure Android experience and not going overboard with hardware capabilities. Having said that, the phone has quad rear camera with diverse lenses and a capable front camera. The punch hole design is welcomed in the segment and having a phone that does basics is a necessity. But HD+ screen quality at this price, with 64GB storage is a downer. You have other options with better hardware in this price range.
