The Galaxy S23 is a high-spirited phone, with powerful innards, no heating issues (so far) and decent cameras. Just picking it up can sometimes cheer you. We are just hoping the battery life improves with the Adaptive battery tech running in the background and that in the next iteration, the entire Galaxy S line-up gets new lenses or anti-glare coating.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 is a compact phone featuring a 6.1-inch AMOLED display with uniform bezels. It's powered by the Exynos 2400 SoC, which excels at multitasking. The phone handles any task with ease and performs well in gaming. The 120Hz refresh rate enhances the display, making it buttery smooth. After extended gaming sessions, it doesn't heat up excessively. However, the phone has a 4000mAh battery, which is quite small compared to other budget and mid-range smartphones. Despite this, the battery life is good, lasting almost 24 hours with light usage. The phone supports 25W charging, which is relatively low, and unfortunately, it doesn't include a charger in the box. Regarding the camera, the phone boasts a 50MP primary camera, a 10MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera on the rear. The primary and telephoto cameras perform well, but the ultra-wide camera still lacks autofocus. Low-light photography is decent but can sometimes be grainy. On the front, there's a 12MP selfie camera that works effectively. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S24 is a compact phone with strong performance, impressive cameras, and good battery life.

The Xiaomi 14 is a compact phone with a very comfortable in-hand feel. Its glossy back panel is a fingerprint magnet, requiring constant cleaning. Despite this, the Xiaomi 14 is really attractive. The rich display quality and the 120Hz refresh rate enhance the viewing experience. The phone is powered by the latest chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. The phone is very smooth for everyday use, and the animations are excellent, which is impressive. However, when playing demanding games, the phone starts heating up within 30 minutes, which is not ideal for avid gamers. One of the standout features of this phone is its cameras. It boasts a 50MP primary camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. On the front, there's a 32MP selfie camera. The Xiaomi 14 can take incredible pictures in all environments, and the low-light picture quality is also great. The device has a 4610mAh battery, which is not particularly impressive, but it supports a 90W hypercharger, fully charging the phone in 35 minutes, which is quite convenient. Considering all these factors, the Xiaomi 14 is an excellent phone for everyday users, but avid gamers might need to look elsewhere.

The Honor 200 Pro is a compelling choice, especially for portrait photography enthusiasts, with its Studio Harcourt features. It boasts a sleek design, curved displays, and solid performance comparable to its peers. Despite not being primarily for gaming, it handles intensive titles smoothly. The software takes some getting used to, but productivity features like Magic Portal are appealing. The battery life is commendable, though the lack of a charger at this price point is a downside. Nonetheless, wireless charging support is a plus.

The OnePlus 12R closely resembles its older sibling, the OnePlus 12. It features a glossy back panel that does get covered in fingerprints easily. Still, the phone is comfortable to hold and well-built. This phone features a 6.78-inch ProXDR display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is bright and offers a great viewing experience. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which is slightly older, the chipset handles everyday tasks and heavy gaming efficiently. If you're looking for a smartphone that balances performance and gaming, the 12R is a strong choice. At the back, the 12R boasts a 50MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP macro camera. The photos are crisp and detailed, but if you prioritise advanced photography features, you might prefer the OnePlus 12. The phone has a 5500mAh battery and comes with an 80W charging adapter. You can expect a full day of battery life with light to moderate use. Overall, the OnePlus 12R offers a flagship-level experience at a more affordable price.

The Google Pixel 7 features a 6.3-inch FHD+ OLED display with a refresh rate of 60Hz to 90Hz. The display offers vibrant colours and a pleasant viewing experience. The Pixel 7 has a solid build quality, though it can become uncomfortable to hold after long periods. The stereo speakers deliver excellent volume and clarity. In terms of cameras, the Pixel 7 includes a 50MP wide camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera on the back, and a 10.8MP selfie camera on the front. The camera app offers a variety of features, including Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Cinematic Blur. The image quality of the wide camera is impressive, but the ultra-wide camera's results are too narrow compared to other smartphones. The Pixel 7 is powered by the Tensor G2 SoC, which handles everyday tasks smoothly. However, extended gaming sessions can cause the back panel to heat up. The phone has a 4355mAh battery, smaller than the Pixel 6's. It runs on Android 13 out of the box and will be among the first to receive the Android 14 update. The software provides a stock Android experience with excellent features. If you're looking for a flagship device with good cameras, great features, a stock Android experience, and reliable performance for daily tasks, the Pixel 7 is an excellent choice.
