Pop-up selfie cameras might all be the rage today. But there was a time barely a year ago when this piece of technology was non-existent on smartphones. First pioneered by Chinese smartphone major Vivo, the pop-up selfie camera that once used to only come on devices that cost upwards of Rs 40,000, has now trickled into lower-end smartphones that cost less than Rs 20,000. The first smartphone to feature a pop-up selfie camera was the Vivo Nex. As of today, there are several other variations of the pop-up mechanism with the most notable being the shark-fin pop-up that comes on OPPO's Reno line-up of smartphones. Vivo has since the introduction of the Nex come up with additional improvements to the pop-up selfie camera with some of its newer phones featuring dual front-facing cameras within the pop-up mechanism. Other brands that have come up with pop-up selfie camera mobiles include Huawei, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Realme.
